2014 Favourites: Lippy Loves

IMG_1792_Fotor real

Lipstick is one of my favourite things in the world. I have quite a special ability to convince myself that a nude lipstick is totally completely different from all the others that I own, or that I need another orange lipstick because 3 isn’t enough … Let’s just say that I saved the best of the favourites for last and it’s an area I love.

Lip Liner:

In terms of liners, there have been 2 that have stood out as game changers. The first is the Too Faced Perfect Nude Liner which is a cool toned nude. The formulation is super smooth and is the perfect base for any nude lip. The second liner has got everyone hooked and that is the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk. If I could only own one lip liner, it would be this one. The formula is everything you could ever want but the colour is the reason why it’s so incredible. It is almost the exact same colour as my lips, just a little bit rosier and healthier. My lips look so full and plump with this and I think it has magical powers … I really do.

2014 was a year of discovery in terms on nudes, I was determined to find my perfect nude and in my journey I actually found a few that I love (no surprises there). For an everyday nude, I love Charlotte Tilbury KISSING Lipstick in Nude Kate. It is a peachy toned nude which is super neutral, so it goes with every look, and the formula is incredible, smooth, long lasting, moisturising, awesome. When I want a more dramatic nudier nude (does that make sense?) I use a combination of MAC Blankety first and then MAC Cremecup overtop. The first lipstick is quite pale, even on my skin tone, so it gives a true nude effect however sometimes it can pull a little too cool with some eye makeup so I like to go over it lightly with the second lipstick, which is a lot rosier but still on the nude side, and it gives a bit of life back to my lips. If i want the nudest of nude (I am making no sense) then I will one of the lip liners I mentioned above, and put some of the Hourglass Femme Nude in Nude No1 in the centre of my lips and blend it out with my finger. Using the technique of using a lighter colour in the centre makes sure there is still dimension to the lips and they don’t look completely blanked out. And finally for the nudes, if I want to add a bit of shine to any of the looks then I reach for the Maybelline Colour Elixir Nude Illusion. I absolutely adore all of the Colour Elixirs, they give of the perfect amount of pigment and they aren’t too sticky that they are uncomfortable but they are are still long lasting, and the colour Nude Illusion is the perfect nude gloss which is surprisingly hard to come across.

Not only did I venture into the nude side of life, but I also overcame my fear of red lips and actually fell in love with them. I never thought I could pull off a red lip but man was I wrong! Nowadays I find myself having to stop myself from wearing a red lip because I’ve already worn one 5 days in a row … My all time favourite red is the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red and I did a review on it here, but to simplify it is the best. For the red with a bit of a lighter tone, I love the Charlotte Tilbury KISSING Lipstick in Love Bite. This lipstick has the exact same formulation as the nude above and it is a gorgeous neutral red that would look great on anybody, it is well worth the money. And my final favourite red is one that I find excuses to wear because I love the colour so much, that is the Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Icon. It is the most stunning deep blood red and looks so striking with a simple or gold toned eye. The formula is perfection too; it isn’t drying but it dries to a matte, transfer proof formula, it is long lasting and when it does start to wear off it fades as opposed to flaking or peeling which I much prefer. Highly highly recommend this too.

love a good bold lip so I have to have another category, separate from the reds otherwise it would have been too big. During the beginning months of the year I was completely obsessed with MAC Flat Out Fabulous. It was actually my first ever MAC lipstick and I have used at least half of the bullet which is saying a lot considering how bright it is. The colour is a mega bold pinky purple and it is a Retro Matte formula, which a lot of people don’t like, but if you’ve got a bit of patience and a matte lip balm handy then it isn’t that big of a deal. I think the colour is so fabulous and I always get compliments when I wear it. As I was venturing into red lip territory, I decided to try a red-y pink just to dip my toes in the water and I decided to try the L’oreal Moisture Matte Lipstick in Red Valentine. This colour is so pretty, I love it and the formula is better than some high end lipstick I’ve used, it is incredible. It is smooth as ever, moisturising on the lips but somehow still matte (witchcraft?) and it is super long lasting even through eating and drinking. My very last favourite for 2014 is one that I saved for last and that is one of my most loved lipsticks ever and that is MAC Morange. It is a super bright, almost neon, orange lipstick and in the bullet is looks like the most unwearable colour ever but it is so fun, surprisingly easy to wear, and so different, it is probably my favourite favourite.

I really enjoyed sharing all of my favourites for the year of 2014 with your all. I hope everyone reading this has a great 2015, I really hope that mine is too.
